Why are we such COP-OUTS?!
By ERIC GORSKI The Associated Press
"(AP) — America remains a nation of believers, but a new survey finds most Americans don't feel their religion is the only way to eternal life — even if their faith tradition teaches otherwise.
The findings, revealed Monday in a survey of 35,000 adults, can either be taken as a positive sign of growing religious tolerance, or disturbing evidence that Americans dismiss or don't know fundamental teachings of their own faiths.
Among the more startling numbers in the survey, conducted last year by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life: 57 percent of evangelical church attenders said they believe many religions can lead to eternal life, in conflict with traditional evangelical teaching.
In all, 70 percent of Americans with a religious affiliation shared that view, and 68 percent said there is more than one true way to interpret the teachings of their own religion.
'The survey shows religion in America is, indeed, 3,000 miles wide and only three inches deep," said D. Michael Lindsay, a Rice University sociologist of religion.'"
As Scott from Air1 said: "I can only repeat what Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
It makes me think of the fact that we are in a postmodern era where 'everything is subjective,' and 'Truth is relative.' The general standing is that, "God is the Lord of all creation- for you that is." How does that make sense? It's just a cop-out, the way people can feel good about sinning and making the wrong choices.

It's rather hard to deny that a large number of people follow 'Churchianity' but thats no surprise with a religion that reaches out to a world of over 6 billion people.
As to religious indifference, you know that its not always black and white. Those people may not be as liberal as you think because "God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ" according to the Gospel (Rom. 2:16). In the parable of the Master and the Slaves (Luke 12:41-48) Jesus talks about the difference in judgment of those who know the master's will and those who don't. The Scriptures also say that God "will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the people with equity"(Psalms 9:8). "Before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law" (Rom. 5:13). Maybe not all, but some of that 57% may have meant this. God is the Just Judge. He knows what's going down.
